WEEK 13 - OBSERVATION WEEK (27 NOVEMBER - 1 DECEMBER 2023)
For this week, I did my observation with my mentor for the second time on the 29th of November. I focused on reading skills and writing as complementary skills. I played a vocabulary game with them in which they needed to come in front and take a vocabulary from the mystery box then try to match it with the meaning on the whiteboard. I picked the pupils randomly using my Bahan Bantu Mengajar (BBM) which is an ice cream stick that has my pupil's names on it. I'm glad that they enjoyed the game. Then for the lesson development, I asked them to read an Article out loud together and ask them a few questions to make sure that they do understand the context of the article they read. For the exercise, I gave them an exercise that related to the article. For the post-lesson, we had a little discussion on the moral value of the lesson. The lesson went well and my mentor praised me for the effort. She also said I did a great job even though I rarely teach them.
The next day which was on the 30th of November, I also did my observation with my supervisor, Miss Shalin. She also visited the school for social visits for the first time. Skill that I focused on my lesson for observation with Miss Shalin, I focused on writing skills. For the pre-lesson, I asked them about their favorite junk food and told them the details about pizza which is what they will learn today. For lesson development, I asked them to sit in a group to write a step on how to make a pizza. The activity didn’t go well because they were so loud and very talkative while doing the task. I tried to control the class as best as I could but still, they didn’t listen to my warning. They also didn’t finish the task given in the time given. Only a few of them finished the task while the rest of them were still in their own world. I asked for volunteers to come and present their work but it took time for them to volunteer. The class became more chaotic so my supervisor scolded and asked them to pay attention to me in front. I felt so disappointed with myself that I broke down in front of the class. I then dismissed the class after all of the mess caused. I felt so embarrassed that I couldn’t control my class well. After the lesson, Miss Shalin gave me feedback regarding my lesson today. She said I needed to work on my voice project since I have a soft voice but she did understand that I was already on my limit. She also asked me to be more creative with my lessons and be more firm with my pupils. Thank you Miss Shalin for the feedback. I hope your feedback will help me in the future.
The next day, 6 Kreatif apologized to me for the mess they caused last night. I told them that they don't need to blame themselves because of what happened last night. I just felt disappointed with myself because I hope that I can do better while having an observation with my lecturer. They did understand me and keep on saying sorry even though it is not fully their fault that I have a break down and cry in front of the class. I'm sorry kids, I hope I can be a better teacher someday because I'm still learning.
Social visit and observation with Miss Shalin.
